Ms. Katie Cook

Welcome to First Grade!!

Dear First Grader and Guardians,

Welcome to First Grade!  My name is Mrs. Cook and I am so excited to be your first grade teacher! We are going to have a fun year filled with lots of learning and exciting new adventures.  I can’t wait to learn all about all of you!  I also would like to tell you a little bit about me, as well as some important information to help you become the BEST first grader you can be!

I was born and raised in Waynesboro, Pa.  I am the middle child.  I have an older sister, Elizabeth and a younger brother Michael.  I love them very much!  My parents also live in Waynesboro.  Another neat fact is that I went to Summitview when I was in elementary school!   I have a wonderful husband, Mr. Cook.  We enjoy doing lots of outside activities.  Riding our bikes is one of our favorite activities.  I can’t wait to hear some of your favorite things!

This is my 11th year in the Waynesboro Area School District.  I taught 1 year of First Grade at Fairview then moved to Summitview and taught Kindergarten for 6 years.  This will be my 4th year in First Grade.  Our first grade program is academically rigorous.  Your child will be spending their day learning reading, math, science, social studies, grammar and much, much more.  There will be lots of fun learning taking place in my classroom!  I can’t wait to see your child’s growth this year in first grade!

Now that you’ve learned a little about me I will give you some important information to make the transition to first grade wonderful!  Thursday, August 17th is Back to School Night.  There will be two rotations.  Rotation 1 is from 6:00-7:00 and Rotation 2 is from 7:15-7:45. Please bring your child's school supplies to Back to School Night in a 2 gallon Ziploc bag.  Thank you!  Please bring the Parent Survey on Back to School Night too.

I will be sending an informational letter home with your child about their lunch account as well as their lunch account number so that you can be practicing this at home.  I ask that when you send in lunch money, that you put it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and lunch account number.  Thank you!

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year I can be reached at school at 762-1191 ext 1800 or through email at  I look forward to seeing you on back to school night!
